Weekly Parent Update

Dear Summerside Families,

You would think we were already in school for far more than just the first two full weeks, with engaged learning happening in each classroom throughout the building! You can ask your child about what they are reading and writing about in language arts. Our fifth graders learned about corn in their reading and are experts on the kernels. Third graders studied animal adaptations. Kindergarteners, first and second graders are working on their phonics instruction routines. You can ask them about their "UFLI (pronounced you fly)" time and the skills they are practicing.

Students in grades 3 - 5 may have come home excited to share their hard work on an Ohio State Practice Test in Language Arts. We are using that information to help us get to know your child this fall and guide our instruction to meet their needs.

All kindergarten families were notified to check their child's homeroom teacher in PowerSchool today, Friday, September 4th. We invite and encourage all of our kindergarten parents to a meet-the-teacher night on Wednesday, September 9th, from 6:00 - 6:45 pm.

Habit One: Be Proactive

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Every school day matters. Consistent, on-time attendance gives students the best opportunity to learn, build strong relationships, participate in school activities, and receive the support they need to succeed. Even a few missed days can add up and create learning gaps over time. Regular attendance also helps students develop important habits such as responsibility, time management, and commitment—skills that support success both in school and in the future.

It is important that your child is at school every day, for the duration of the school day. If they are sick or need to miss school for an approved reason as outlined in the West Clermont Student and Parent Handbook, please either call our attendance line, 513-947-7904,

Picture Day!

Picture Day is coming on Thursday, September 10!

You can place your order on mylifetouch.com using your Picture Day ID: EVTRMDTDW. Order before midnight on Picture Day to get FREE shipping!

Parent Helpers Wanted:

Help us make the Picture Day smooth and effortless. Contact the front office if you’d like to volunteer during our Picture Day, 513-947-7900. Volunteers must have fingerprints on file at the West Clermont School District office. Weekend Food Bags

Our mission is to commit to excellence, with every learner, every day, in every way. One way that we can do that is to help provide for your child if there is a need for food at home over the weekend. Thanks to the generosity of local organizations who work to serve our Summerside students, we are able to continue our Weekend Food Bag Program as an option for our students in need for the 2026 - 27 school year. If you are interested in your child receiving a food bag at the end of each week, please complete the linked form below.

Personal Devices at School Are NOT Permitted

A reminder to all that personal devices are not permitted at school for students in preschool through fifth grade, as noted in our WC Student/Parent Handbook. As noted, "Students are prohibited from using cell phones at all times. If other technology is connected to a cell phone (earbuds, smartwatches, etc.) and is being used to access cell phone functions, that device is also not permitted under these new requirements." We have seen more personal tracking devices this school year that fall under this policy and state law that need to remain at home. Thank you for your help with following this policy and state law to keep all safe and focused on learning!

IT'S SUMMERSTRIDE TIME with COLOR RUN FUN!

We are excited to kick off our annual Summerstride Walk-a-Thon fundraiser, running Tuesday, September 8–25! Your child will be coming home with a packet and an envelope with their name and homeroom printed on it on Tuesday, September 8.

Envelopes & Donations

Each envelope is labeled with a student’s name—please make sure it goes to the correct child
Families can return cash and check donations in these envelopes.
Families can also collect donations online at: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/summerstride25
If you notice any errors on the website with student names or teacher assignments, please email us at summersidepto@gmail.com so we can correct them.
Spanish translations are available for families who need them.
